In February the UK Government pledged that the ban of the sales of petrol & diesel cars will be brought forward from 2040 to 2035. Not surprisingly in March we also heard from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) that new car registrations in Britain fell by 44.4 per cent due to the effects of the coronavirus shutdown. Note, at the same time electric vehicle registrations were up by 197.4 per cent year-on-year in March 2020, reflecting a surge in interest. In 2019 we saw record numbers of new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) registered in the UK, this year we are set to see 23 new models launched.
